green energy

The Green Energy Production for bio-based & compostable packaging production project is developed by PROMATERIS SA (Romania) as a Project Promoter and NORSK ENERGI (Norway) as a Project Partner.

The project

The project offers solutions both to the decarbonization of Promateris and to the environmental issues the world is confronting today, by replacing traditional energy with energy from renewable resources, which will be used in the production process.

This project will help Promateris' transition to green energy by replacing traditional fossil fuel energy with solar energy. The investment value amounts to approximately 1 million euros and Promateris is the beneficiary of a 597.000 euros aid provided by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway through the EEA and Norwegian financial mechanism 2014-2021.

The green energy produced by the photovoltaic system will reduce the carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 341,053 tons/year, which is in line with EU and national regulations and targets, contributing to the EU's strategy of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.

The project is in line with the EU and national regulations and targets, contributing to the EU’s long-term strategy of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. In this context, production of energy from renewable sources will enable Promateris' further decarbonization.

Through this project, Promateris also contributes to the decarbonization of the local economy & community (aprox. 25.000 inhabitants in Buftea), while also contributing in helping Romania achieve its green energy transition targets.

Within this project we are aiming to install a photovoltaic system, with an installed capacity of 1MWp. The system will be installed in Buftea, at our production facility and the energy obtained will be used in order to manufacture our bio-based & compostable products.

Packaging with low
carbon footprint

The technical solution proposed within this project enables PROMATERIS to become the first company in Romania and CEE to offer packaging with the lowest carbon footprint in the market.
Besides the high content of renewable resources used in the product manufacturing, as well as the fact that they are biodegradable and compostable, this new generation of packaging will have an even reduced impact on the environment due to the fact that it was produced using renewable energy.
